Currently, India is Thalassemia capital of the world. We have 2,00,000 thalassemics in our country taking regular transfusion. Only 10% of this population, get comprehensive care. There are very few centres in India which provides beyond just Transfusion.

ARH Thalassemia Daycare was conceptualised considering Ahmednagar district have around 1000 thalassemia patient and district dint have a single comprehensive day-care centre. This centre is supported by Rutuja Foundation.  The whole USP of this Project is to be One- Stop Solution for Thalassemics warrior from transfusion, medication, proper treatment, investigations, Psycho- social support and Super-Specialist care. This centre is one of its kind in Ahmednagar District – Right in heart of the city- to provide comprehensive care to all sectors in Ahmednagar.

This center is the only Thalassemia Day care center in India in Private Sector which gives free of cost service to 150 Patient starting from blood transfusion, Medicines, Investigation.

The goal of this comprehensive daycare is to provide the best possible treatment starting from diagnosis, from care to cure and also work on awareness and  prevention of the disease.

We Understand that there is Multi-organ involvement in Thalassemia requiring a Multidisciplinary approach with an exclusive of super specialities doctors, trained staff. Patients are  looked after Team of Hematologist (Adult and Paediatric), Gastro-enterologist, Endocrinologist, Cardiologist, Gynaecologist, Fetal Medicine Expert, Orthopaedician, Dental Surgeon, Dietician, Physiotherapist, Specialised Nurse, Counsellor, Pharmacist and Medical Social Worker.

ARH Thalassemia Comprehensive Daycare provides the right treatment to thalassemia patient in form of Regular Leucoreduced Fresh blood transfusion as per their weight every 21 days in order to maintain Pre-Transfusion Hb 9-10.5 g %, Chelation, Multi-vitamin tablets, Timely investigation and tailoring treatment plan as per their needs and feasibility. Patients and their parents (thalassemia minors) comfort and ease is given outmost importance in this facility. Comprehensive care is based on holistic approach towards this disease.

The aim of this facility is to Provide a Hassle free – minimum time consumption and one stop solution for thalassemia patient. The centre has been built with a close cooperation with the  ARH  blood bank and ARH laboratories to provide out of hours services, to better cater for the needs of thalassaemia patients.

Vaccinations
A programme has been set up for vaccinations of all patients for Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B

Blood Transfusion
The objective is to maintain a Pre-transfusion Hb level of 9.0-10.0 gms/dl. The lead is taken by the Nurse/Social Worker. The Pre-transfusion Hb is used as the basis for the appointment to be given for the next transfusion.  This date of the next transfusion (plus or minus 2 days) is communicated to the patient’s guardian on the day of earlier transfusion.

Iron chelation
Doctor’s prescription is made out based on Serum Ferritin test and the weight of the patient. Oral Iron Chelators to be sourced for the patients, who is monitored closely after the initiation of iron chelation.
